Comments on the RNC 8/28

This evening, I caught a glimpse of the Republican National Convention and the roll call of the state delegates. Although the origin of the National Conventions was founded in clearly identifying a running mate for the current president, it has been clear for some time that Romney would be the chosen one. Instead, it seemed the Convention served as a sort of partisan cotillion, a way for the Republicans to “come out” like a unified, yet diversified debutante. I watched the half hour via the live feed on the Convention website, so the section I saw was relatively unfiltered by the media. However, in this MSNBC clip, Chuck Todd delivers his praise for the party in its “choreography”. In fact, he deliberately reveals that the spatial formation of delegates from more “diverse” territories like Guam and Puerto Rico are positioned so that “the camera will catch those shots of the delegates applauding”, therefore serving up a broader geographical picture of support for the Republican candidacy.
